Need a backup/import disc boot method that allows direct boot after PS2 splash screen
Need a backup/import disc boot method that allows direct boot after PS2 splash screen –

Like the title says, I'm looking for some method that will allow me to boot directly into a game without having to go into a menu first. I own a Swap Magic and currently use that to boot backups and imports, but it's becoming a bit of a nuisance. Any suggestions?

I'm not very experienced with PS2 hacking, but I've heard Free McBoot Me is the way to go.

Doesn't FMCB have a splash screen before booting the game?

Free McBoot is a homebrew loader that is installed onto a PS2 memory card. It doesn't allow for direct booting of games. However, the Noobie Package for Free McBoot installs does come with a direct boot ESR. If ddr4lyfe back's up his games to his computer, patches them with ESR disc patcher, and then burns them onto high quality DVD-R's, ESR will directly boot those. I have installed it onto one of my cousin's memory cards and all of their backups boot directly. You would jus need to wait for ESR's splash screen (some random colors) to show up. But there is no menu.
If you plan on installing Free McBoot, you can find the tutorial for installing it using Swap Magic here, and the Noobie Package can be found here.

So ESR is the best I can get without a modchip, even with its minimal splash screen?

Well with what you're asking for, ESR is your best choice. There are other methods to boot games using Free McBoot, but with all those methods you would have to go through a menu to select the game that you wanted. With the dvd direct ESR, you would just need to pop in the disc and wait for it to launch.
