Help!! My V5/6 PS2 Tray Is Making Noise –
Hi, I just bought a V5/6 PS2 and I was told that it is a brand new, non-refurbished system (it does look new as it is in mint condition).
When I press the eject button the tray makes a rattling sound. Almost like the gears inside are grinding or something. It seems like the weight of the tray is making the tray rub against something and it makes a vibrating sound. I am not sure what this is. When I put the system on its side the sound isn't as loud so it seems like the weight of the tray is making it rub against something or the gears are grinding. I really have no idea.
I am pretty sure this isn't normal, but has anyone else experienced this or know what I can do to fix the problem? The tray opens and closes fine other than the grinding sound.
Ok, I found out that the tray only makes the rattling sound when there is no game in the tray and only when I open it. If I close the tray with or without a game it works fine, and if I open the tray when there is a game in it it works fine too. So do I have anything to worry about or is that rattling just normal?
No worries I get that sound too. Open the tray and look at the Sony logo on the tray. Watch it grind against your case as it moves in/out. =) Nothing to worry about. I have a V6 that has the same problem.
I had this problem with my V5.
I opened the PS2 and unscrewed the top of the DVD Drive (the 4 small black screws), ejected the tray with ps2 on, switched ps2 off and pushed down the white long plastic piece which is located towards the front of the drive with a little bit of force and the tray sound is gone and is even more quiet than the newer PS2 models
I did this fix about a year ago and the tray noise is still fine.
