multiple cd-rs? –
I've been perusing IRC lately, and I see a lot of ps2 dvd games in cd-r format over multiple discs. How does this work? Does the ps2 let you swap the cds when necessary? If so, is there a guide to ripping a game like this? I'd like to make a backup of a few of my games on cd-r.
Hmm, i'm not to experienced with this, but there are "rip kits* that rip a game for you (there for a certain game). I don't know of any rip kits that rip the game on multiple discs though....
I do know pretty much how the discs work though.
Some of them you have to save before the cd switch cuz the game will freeze (i remember blood omen 2 doing that to me), and some will tell you to insert the next disc, and some if they have missions or something will be divided so that a certain # of missions on 1 disc, and then switch to the next for the other missions (remember MOH: frontline doing that to me). That's all I can remember right now.
Some dvd games you can just rip to 1 cd. To give you some basic understanding of the way this is done:
First, you save the contents of the game to your computer. Go into the movie files (they should be something .mov I beleive-usually). You can download dummy files (dummy movie files) that take extremely little space (like 1 KB). Take out the movie file, then insert the dummy file, and rename it the same thing as the previous movie file. Keep doing this until you get the game down to 700 MB (cd-r), and of course you cannot watch those movies that you got rid of.
Some games you cannot rip to 700 MB, and some games require a little more than all that, but that is a basic understanding of it.
To make you understand how much a bitch ripping a game is, and waste of time...I got about 400 games, and out of 400...I've ripped 2 of them myself!
Best to either get a dvd burner, and copy them (at least you'll have all of the contents), or just buy the games off some1 or something.
