Hello again - just for the benefit of others I will post here my reply to your PM:
When you say you had touble getting the laser ribbon cable into the laser cartridge - what exactly happened - i.e. what was the trouble?
You may have bent the cable to many times and broken a wire internally... or you may still not have the cable connected correctly.
If any of the cables are not correctly put back in place you will find that the PS2 does not respond well.
Does the CD spin at all - i.e. can you hear the motor going?
Make sure you have not knocked the sled out of place when you were trying to re-attach the cable.
There are three cables between the Drive and the MB - all need to be connected correctly for the station to work. The little orange one is the most "breakable" of the three - but the large one from the sled is notorious for pulling loose at one or both ends if you are not careful when assembling or dis-assembling.
With the MB side of the connection - lift the little locking gate carefully - insert cable - close it back down again.
With the sled side - gently pull the two clips on the side of the connector outwards to release the cable. ensure it is inserted correctly - then push both sides back in gently but firmly until they click in place - this is difficult to do as the mechanism appears to be very fragile... once in place though the cable should be held firmly.
Alternatively - try disconnecting the power cable from the 3.45V point and the Messiah2 chip and see if the chip itself is causing the problem.
Double check all your solder points especially around the bios and make sure you have not accidentally shorted any of the points together.
Ensure all of the wires actually connect to the correct points. And that the wires are ok - i.e. no internal breaks along the length of the wires.
Having a multi-meter helps.
thanx shadowknyght the ribbon is not bent and has gone into place the problem was the clip it would not tighten it has now
the cd spins quick slow etc the sled moves a red diode blinks once when it moves when the ribbon came out it was not planed
