Melted down HD7 laser in a V9 ???? How come ?? –
9 months ago, I installed the following in a V9 (SCPH-50004):
- original Matrix Infinity
- Romeo mod, disconnected 12V of LA6508 chip, connected to 5V, just like I did it in a lot of V9's.
Suddenly it did not play anymore, originals/backups CD/DVD it did not matter.
The motor did not spin the CD/DVD's anymore.
Opened the box, checked the laser and saw that the HD7 laser lens was melted. Really melted. Never seen this before.
It looked like a melted down PVR laser in a V12 without laser protection.
I measured the focus and tracking coils of the HD7 laser, and both were on 0.6 Ohm. (between pin 3&4 and between pin 5&6).
Checked all the wires, and all were installed correctly.
What do you think could have caused this problem ?
the hd7's are the worst lasers ever make. even with the romeo i've seen a few dying. the romeo definately helps lot but its not 100%
Was there a better way to protect the HD7 laser ?
I am using the Romeo mod for years, and this is the first time I have seen a HD7 like that.
The owner of the ps2, went on holiday, and forgot to turn off the ps2 with a game in it.
After the holiday, the ps2 was still working, but maybe that was a tricker, what eventually caused the problem.
that could well be. the only way to protect the hd7 is with the romeo mod. i've also got a v9 with a hd7 and romeo mod. been going for years as well.
