Media player kills HD

I have an external USB drive, and the new ps2reality media player. I added the 2 irx files to the image to use the USB drive. Everything worked fine, but now my drive sometimes shuts down for a second, then boots up again. If this happens the media player hangs up. Now, when i switch on the drive it makes a "beeping noise" from time to time and i have to slap it or shut it off.

When i use external drives in my PC, there is an option to " remove external device secure " which i don't have on PS2. Perhaps this is the problem ?

What can i do to avoid this ? Anyone else got this problem ?
