This line puzzles the hell out of me, ?massive small?? Resolder? Bad Mod attempt? Sony will not repair Mod attempts.

Is the 50K Mobo damaged? Did you test the coils for LA Chip failure? The system could have more problems than just the laser.

Say the Lasers were compatible, all you?d have to do is open the drive lid remove the right pin screw and swap lasers, no need to try fitting a 50K Mobo into a 30K case. If you had a 30001R you might try an open face laser on it. If it was me, I?d try a 400B laser anyway. I know a guy who swapped a 400C and Sanyo and everything worked but DVD movies for some reason.

Sorry about the bad grammar there dude, i of course meant massive amounts of small points. Looks like im in good luck, sony has got me to send the unit in and the will Repair or Replace for this error type for No Charge!!!

back to me in one week, they did not replace, but they did fix, they replaced the laser, after elec alignment try, repaired the linkage. and align and reassemble, the only thing i see from the repair summary i see they replaced is the laser, they put a new KHS-400C, and oh yea now i see they also replaced the laser assy as well, oh well kewl for me 35.00 bucks for a working 50001 unit, woo hoo.
