Mainboard Swap from 30001 to 50001
Mainboard Swap from 30001 to 50001 –
01-26-2005,06:53 PM
Here is the story, I have a old 30001 ps2, that is running just dandy, i was in a surplus store the other day, and saw a 50001 on the shelf for 30 buck as is, i asked the guy what is wrong with it, he stated it does not read disk, no what the hell 30.00 i took it, got it home and adjusted both height and angle of the laser, nothing!! I fig if i could get it just to read a ps1 disk i could run an exlpoit at least. I know the 50001 is a little better unit, quiter, ir built in to the unit, and dvd drivers built into the machine, can i swap the mainboard and from the 50001 over to the 30001 and leave the 30001 laser???? Another ??? can an exploit be run with a dead laser i.e. no way to read disk??? via network adapter, via usb, something???

Absolutely not. If you actually took both boards apart you'd notice they are nothing alike. Even if you were a fabricator you'd still have trouble getting it to fit. Just get a new laser, end of story.

Tony,
thanks for quick come back, i have noticed this, when i pulled the guts of the 50001, it would need massive small resolder job on some small points, and some of the set points dont match up, though i would see if anyone had a better idea then me, any other on my other line of questions about the exploit, or do you figure i might as well just replace the laser all together if that is truly the problem??

If they're the same laser type just switch them and see if the 50001 will read discs, so you can be sure it's really the laser. I'm pretty sure it's the laser.
Oh and it's Toma, not Tony

You could send it to Sony and they'll probably fix it up for you, free... 18003457669

I have heard alot of people are doing this and sony is doing it for nothing, but this unit second hand, and been open, but not modded, i will give them a shot and see what happens. Toma!! sorry about that dude, i saw tony (duh) thanks for the idea, but the lasers are diff the 30001 is not progressive scan, the 50001 is, i will try sony and see what happens

The laser itself has nothing to do with progressive scan; they just have to be of the same type. Basically, you can't swap a KHS closed face-laser with the open-faced laser or vice-versa.

get a new laser. you will spend around $50 for it and it will take 2 weeks at least to get it. but compared to sending it to sony and wait a month for them to send it back to you untouch because it was already opened and second hand aint worth your time. if you want i will buy it off you for the $30 plus $10 shipping and i will buy a new laser
