i am trying to troubleshoot my magic 3.1 install, and i was wondering if someone could tell me the particular functions of the wires so that maybe i could figure it out. (ie, z wire function, s wire function, etc.) thanks in advance!

i installed the magic 3.6 (clip preinstalled) in my version 7 ps2, and everytime i boot up, i get a psx screen, then a ps2 screen, then it goes to the setup menu. this happens everytime i boot it up. i uninstalled the chip, and at the first boot, it did the same thing, (went to setup), but after that it functioned normally and played retail discs fine. if it makes any difference, the motherboard version is gh-022

    thanks

most likely a bridged point on the back of the board....usually when that screen comes up it's a bridged bios wire, but in your case you have the clip, maybe it's unseated, and shorting something

the only variable that concerned me is that i heard that the magic 3.1 isn't compatible with certain v7 motherboards and bioses. is that true, or should it work with all v7 consoles? thanks.

It will work with all V7s. Now open it back up and check to make sure that the clip is on and all is soldered well. You shouldn't get the settings screen each time you power it on.
The Yellow PS2 auto-boots all. PS2, PS1 stealth and DVD movies.
