LOL ! Hardware glitch on PlayOnline Viewer
I had this stuff for nearly 3 years now (the japanese version) and never had a single problem with it.
Recently I bought an used PAL network adapter (It looks the same as the japanese NA, no modem. Broadband only) and was using it with POL Viewer just fine on my SCPH-30000 NTSC-J PS2. Then other day I got a Conexant USB modem and went on "I wanna try this out". The thing crashed on me and I was like WTF.... It said the program were halted because network device stopped responding. Then I unplugged the USB modem and tried again. Same thing .... I was like "oh noes! I blew it"
Then I put my other NA (the older one which I have since 2003) and the thing said there were no terminal adapter connected (the expected answer since the modem were not connected to the USB port)
I opened the new NA and wow I found out it has the same chip as the USA NA it even have the connector for a serial modem. It's missing the modem board thought.
Latter on I opened a USA NA and disconnected the modem board, ran PlayOnline Viewer and it crashed again.
So after this I think Sony never ever thought about releasing FFXI for Europe...
Ah I could repeat the same glitch on the english version of PlayOnline viewer (see pics)
And wow this is such a dumb glitch. Check if there's a modem before actually try to use it.
Technical stuff:
Old SCPH-10350 network adapter is based on CXD9624GG chip. (Same chip as the one for the 10/15/18k PS2 series network adapter, the PCMCIA one)
No serial port on this one. For the people in USA to know which network adapter this is, it used to come with the PS2 Linux kit.
The newer one is based on the CXD9731GP (The same chip you will see on the US NA and the V12/V13 Slimline PS2)
