My ps2 has always been connected with component cables and digital audio. The component cable I'm using doesnt even have audio connections on it.
Is there a list of games that wont output sound digitally? So far I have found two and was lucky enough to be able to return them.
i always thought that if a game did'nt do digital surround output that the console put regular stereo output over the digital connection.
I've been running my console connected to speakers over optical since i bought it and have not found a game that does'nt output sound yet. I have bought some old games (launch title: ridge racer V) and some very recent titles (Mortal Kombat Armageddon) and many in between with no problem you speak of.
I think the only game that doesn't work is the japanese initial D game
The only game I have that doesn't work through the optical port is Parappa the Rapper 2. Sucks that it doesn't work.
i use the optical output only and i get sound for all games. The only game i know that has digital theater sound is GTA:vice city where you can select DTS sound
I will try to remember the name of the game I returned. It was a unique puzzle game with fireworks IIRC.
Maybe we can start to create the list since a search on google didnt return good results.
Wuz: Yes thats true. Im talking about a few games that have no digital output at all, stereo or otherwise.
zaxour: So initial d has no sound at all over when connected to the optical out?
Z-Saber: Parrapa 2 has no sound when connected over optical?
From my experience it doesn't.
SSX3 also has DTS output :)
IIRC GRADIUS III & IV also doesnt work with optical output.
Initial D Ps2 Full DVD doesnt work with toslink
