    Depends on the version.
The Yellow PS2 auto-boots all. PS2, PS1 stealth and DVD movies.

I've got a V4 and my laser has lasted year and a half now...It's starting to die now though ! People say that V4 don't have good lasers in them, but i'd definitely beg to differ. For that year and half I've put my laser through hell (playing so many damn copies I can't count, and it working so hard), and it lasted through all of that . So, it's really hard to tell, and how much you use it.

    v1-v4 are compatible
    v5-v7 are compatible

the laser life depends on the media you use, how much you use it, the conditions its in (dirty dusty etc..) and other miscellanious things...

v4s should be dying or dead by now unless you havent used it much
