Laser version? Help! –
I just got a PS2 that was sold as faulty (V4), someone had tried to chip it and had messed up big time. Having fixed a few things I got it to boot, but then I noticed the CD\DVD drive was making a strange noise so I opened it up. Now this is where I found the problem. It would appear that someone has tried to replace the laser, but has got the wrong version. Attached is a picture showing the only thing that appears to be different compared to my other V4 PS2 units. As you can see the metal work has a bit missing, I know this hasn't broken off as you can see it was moulded that way. I have compared the laser to my v4, v5 and v7, but it doesn't look like any of them! The code on it is;
The reason for the noise was that as the metal is not there the laser never hits the snake motor stop switch, so it just keeps on going and going. I hope someone can help me here, it will be much appreciated.
I had the exact same problem a while ago and Entity was able to help me out. Here's my original thread:
Essentially I was able to fix my problem with some thick double sided sticky tape. I just extended it to form something that would resemble the piece of metalwork that would have been there on the other lasers and tested it. It works perfectly hitting the microswitch and stopping the laser.
Thanks geekay I tried that, but it looks like the laser doesn't work
I'd still like to know though what version this type of laser is for.
@ Relayer, Thanks for the help in clearing that up. Now if I can get it to work I can at least sell or swap it for one to use on a V4.
