Laser lens type and quality on SCPH 9000x

How many laser types are there on the SCPH 9000x series ?
How can you identify it without opening the console ? By HC serial number , by date code ? Just by looking at it ?
My google searches came up with just one model for 9000x series , the TDP-182W 5046 ( pic attached )

Why i'm asking , a friend has a 9c and another has a 0a
The one with 9c has no problem reading disks , including old CD's, SM disc ..etc..while the one with 0a can't read those
I know the 9000x is a budget one but how can we explain these differences in laser quality ?

Can i know which lens type a console has by it's date code or some other code on the back of the console ?

How can i tell which one , without opening the console ? Is their size or shape different ? Is their laser beam different ?
There's also the TDP-182W which is for sale for 90004 but that name might refer to the whole mechanism ?

The only diference is the name writed in the right side and the colour of pcv.
You have to open the ps2 to see it.

That number you say its the "worm" motor model from mechanism, the big or the small one.
