Soon after I installed my modchip in my v7, I was getting the clicking noise. So I decided to clean my laser lens. But it didn't solve the problem and it just got worse. Now the ps2 keeps giving me the "disc read error." It won't read dvds but it reads cds fine. Actually, at first when the ps2 is cool, it reads dvds too but like 2 mins. later after it begins to warm up, the laser doesn't seem to be able to read the disc anymore. The disc tray does eject and the disc spins normally when powered on. I have tried adjusting the laser via the white cog and the potentiometers but I've had no luck.

What do you think the problem is? The laser or the ba----fm chips?

If I buy a new laser, how do I prevent the new one from burning out?

That's an overheating problem. Is your fan spinning? Vents clear?

my cd player in my card does that all the time with burned cd's. Sometimes it takes FOREVER for it to seek the next track, while other times it just works. I've read that a lot of car cd players can't read the 80 minute cd-r's, but the 74 minute ones are fine. But it sounds like the same problem---clicking noise when loading or trying to get to the next track, then a disc error or 5 minutes later, it works.

I'm thinking that it might be the media you're using or how you're burning the discs. There are so many variables from your cd-rom burner to which modes to which media.

    Good Luck!

The fan works fine and the vents are clear.

As for the media, it won't even read original ps2 games. Should I just replace the laser or could it be the ba chip? If I get a new laser, is there a possiblity that it too would go bad?
