    Noob here.
Reading all I can but for now I am confused with so many options.

My kids were given a PS2 for X-mas.

I would like to make back ups of those games as they are $$$.
What is the simplest / best way to make backups that will play so I can archive the original?

    Thnaks for your help.

Ok, for the ps2 to read backups you need a modchip. If you can't install your own send it to someone to install it for you. You can use dvd decrypter or nero to make back ups once you have a modchip installed. Which playstation 2 did they get for Christmas? The slim or the fat one?

Get the Crystal Chip 1.1 Lite for your console and you shouldn't have any problems playing backups. If you have no soldering experience I can install the chip for you for a small fee. Check my site.

    Any other good options?
Do not want to really modify the unit.

mod chip is pretty much the best option. swap magic disc is another option but they don't work for all games and it get annoying having to swap every time. hd is not option for you since you own a slim.

exactly, or get an older larger model and fit a hard drive, then no discs ever again.
