This ps2 was modded with an Infinity about 3 weeks ago by me. It was then sent off to my friend. He used it without incident for 2 weeks. Now all it will do is once you power it on there is a small grinding noise (from the laser gear trying to push the laser too far into the spindle hub for the disc). Also, it will not eject. When you push the eject button, all it does is flash the blue light.

I uninstalled the mod, used de-soldering braid to remove all traces of solder from the pins and points on the board. I don't think this is the problem anyhow, because it worked fine for 2 weeks.

Still does the same thing. Checked all fuses, they are all good. checked laser coil resistance, it was 6. Here is the strange thing. When I power it on and it moves the laser eye, there is no red light emitted. I am completely at my wits end. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

Dead laser......never heard of this problem before. Did you check all the ribbon cable for creases or rips?

Yep, checked them all. The strange thing is that it worked fine for 2 weeks, then did this all of a sudden. There's no way it had a damaged ribbon and still played fine for 2 weeks.

I can understand a dead laser, but why does the laser drive try and push the laser INTO the center spindle hub? I think the grinding is the gear when the laser is at the end of its travel.

When it's trying to jam it into the spindle, it usually means it's not hitting the little switch that tells the snake motor to stop pulling it in. I've had this happen before, but I've never had it prevent it from ejecting the tray. Maybe there's a jam in there or something.

hmmmm, I suppose that coukd be the case. I dont think there is a jam, I've disassembled the ps2 twice now. It doesn't keep grinding, only for about 1-2 seconds, then stops
