So, How do I know if the LA is bad?
It opens and closes the tray, the cd spins normally, the laser turns red and the lens moves up and down.
The laser unit seems new. I had no success running lenschanger, just a black screen.
The laser is a KHS400C.
It's a SCPH50001, with a GH26 board.
I tried to clean it and moved a little the small pots under it.
Since I got no success with the pots, I have put then to their older values ( I have written down it somewhere, but I can't find it right now).
Maybe the problem is that the laser unit came without the small screw, so, putting the old one in the right position is driving me nuts!
If I could afford some laser units for my use, I think I would buy around 3.
Thinking of a lifespan of 5~8 years, when I install the last one even DVD disks should have become a rarity!
I have a theory: maybe the support for different lens comes fro the use of different circuits to control them.
Maybe if I change the circuits I can change the lens type... or not, who knowns!!
i know this is an exercise in possibilites but why use the laser at all?
you have a fat so get a network adaptor and an ide HDD or an adaptor and a SATA drive..... there were even some sata network adaptors coming out of china .
cant remember if they were tested by anyone here but a search might help... using FMCB and OPL you dont need a laser at all.....

I just would like to play my rental dvds and my cds on ps2. Since it's on the living room would be a good idea.
I know a new ps2 or maybe a next-gen console would be a better idea, but taxes here are around 150~200%, wich is out of reach for my bucks.
