How to test LA6508 chip
How to test LA6508 chip –
How do I test the LA chip? I've seen different ways and I'm not sure which one is correct.
Can I get some details on how to do it properly?
There's no sure way to test it but the most common method is to check that the power supply pin does not short to ground.
The only sure way is unfortunately replace it. What problems are you experiencing?
I have a v10 here that I just replaced the laser on hoping the LA chip was fine. I had tested it using some of the ways I've seen but I still can't get it to read any media. It's not spinning up the disc. I'm going to have to do some more testing tomorrow. I started working on it today but it's been a long day and forgot what I tried and what it was doing before. It has always posted video and all that jazz.
Thanks for the reply.
If you replace a laser on a PS2 with a bad LA chip, there?s a good chance you will damage the coils on the new laser. What type laser did you replace? If it?s a 400C I?ll buy the old one from you.
The only way I know is to check the lens coils. If one or both are shorted, or nearly shorted, the LA is most certainly blown. I checked the resistance on a couple bad LA and the pins were around 900 Ohms. When I get a good one here I?ll check and see if there?s any difference. I?m still waiting to here from D*****O about my 6508R clones that didn?t work. They claim to support their products and reply within one business day but it?s going on 3 days now. I wish I could find some troubleshooting help on these pcb fixes. Like why is one laser not even lighting up and can they work with the original LA completely removed?
ive also had a few ps2 where the laser was stuffed - both coild read ok, but I had to replace the laser and the LA to get it working again.
Well I had used every method to test the LA chip, if the new laser is screwed up then that'll be a waste of 40 bucks. Makes me wonder if it's even worth fixing this crap.
thats why its better to replace both at the same time, otherwise you risk damaging the new laser.
Yeah I know that now. I'll have to check out the laser today. Once I realized it wasnt goign to read a cd I turned it off right away. So maybe the laser is fine. I didn't let it struggle to read the disc. Good to know that the methods to test the la chip was all a guess
Just test those coils! I've run some old 400B on fried LA's for 30 Seconds or so and the coils were still fine so there's a good chance you didn't toast any more coils.
Yeah I checked them, they're fine. The lens still looks clear/blue. Know where I can get an la chip from? I dont want to bother with a clone. Link me plz if you can wherever they're in stock.
