I have a 400c laser, the back of it is green colour. I installed it in a v4 ps2 , it reads cds fine but it keeps making scratches all over my dvd games. When i take the dvd out, there's a "rim" around the center. Is there something i'm suppose to adjust?

Adjust the "height" of the laser by adjusting the "white cog" or "white plastic screw" which is located just at the top of the whole laser unit.

You probably forgot to adjust the screws on the new laser itself. Here are a couple of guides that might help you. These are what I used when I replaced the laser on my v4.

I've got problems replacing the laser on my v7. I can't get it to read DVDs. AudioCD reads just fine. How accurately should the big white cog be adjusted? For a reason I had to dismount the whole package from the drive unit earlier and I haven't gotten it to work after that. Anyways, it's a long story and doesn't concern the topic all that much.
I hear a scratching noise from the drive when I try to boot GT3. It's original. I don't think the drive is causing scratches on the disc though. I've adjusted the height and angle of the laser numerous times but it doesn't show any improvement in reading the disc.
