How to patch a widescreen patch on iso
How to patch a widescreen patch on iso –
hello everyone , this is my fist thread here
Recently I've noticed there are some PS2 games which have some kinda widescreen patch or code released
I wonder if I want to play it at my real PS2 console how should I patch the isos and then I can burn the disc
also my ps2 is 90000 type
Is there someone who knows the method and kindly enough to share it with me
I'll take a stab here.
You're not going to be patching the ISO directly. You will want to mount the ISO, and find the game's ELF file. Once you have that, you need to disassemble it and find in the code where the aspect ratio set. I guess it goes without saying that this will only work on games that use 3D rendering(2D games won't work).
Now depending on the game, you will have to do some more work finding the routines that handle any 2d element such as overlays for health bars, text, etc. You'll have to modify to code to have these elements rendered to match the new widescreen rendering area.
After all this, you just replace the original ELF with your modified ELF, and repackage the ISO.
Short way is if their is a hex already found just use HxD open in search for use original hex and in replace with new once found save you are done use whatever method to play but that model ps2 most likely you will need mod chip or swapmagic to get it to work

Is how all good gaming systems came to be
With Free MCboot I can get games to boot widescreen by selecting a modified .elf placed on a USB drive, this works fine with discs, but since I want to run games of the HDD it's far from ideal. Extracting the ISO, replacing the ELF and repacking it doesn't work either (either on a real PS2 or with PCSX2, some values on the ELF are altered in a manner that make it unbootable with this method). So it appears that RandQalan is correct, the ISO must be hex edited directly. This is as far as I gotten with pnatch converter:
comment=Widescreen hack by nemesis2000 (pnach by nemesis2000 )
FORMAT: HEX PATTERN
But I'm not sure what values to search for and what to replace with. I believe there's also the problem of modifying repeating values outside of the ELF itself. Could someone help? I'm somewhat new to all this, don't hesitate to correct me or speak simply!
Okay, finally got it working!
First you need to convert your .pnatch file to Hex-Vales with Pnach converter, under "Format" choose "ELF" - IIRC, you can either drag and drop the file into the left window or simply hit "Browse" to load it up. Then change format to "Hex-pattern" and load that up too (left side) and finally hit "convert" for your values.
The values in my post above are correct, for example:
I used HxD for hex editing and followed the method described here -- AHHH! I can't post links yet, sorry folks, not enough posts, search google for "PS2 Widescreen Hack (Hex ISO Codes Only)" and it's the first link. Save the file when your done, it'll be in RAR format, simply rename it with a ".ISO" extension and transfer to your hard drive as usual. (I'm wondering now if changing the extension of the ".ELF" file would work for the repacking method I had no luck with...)
