There will be a file on the CD/DVD or in the ISO file starting with SLUS or SCUS or SLES, etc. You can also check in the SYSTEM.CNF file for this code, or you can save your game and then check the memory card for the info from the game save folder using uLaunchELF. I created a post about this way back. I can't find my original post right now, but below is the information I was building on:

PBPX [NTSC] = Japan? (specific location unknown) - possibly used to denote utility dics, etc? - related source
    SCAJ [NTSC] = Japan?
SCED [PAL] = Europe? (specific location unknown)
SCES [PAL] = Europe (United Kingdom?)
    SCKA [NTSC] = Korea?
SCPS [NTSC] = Japan? (specific location unknown)
    SCUS [NTSC] = United States/Canada
SLAJ [NTSC] = Japan? (specific location unknown)
SLES [PAL] = Europe (specific location unknown)
    SLKA [NTSC] = Korea?
    SLPM [NTSC] = Japan?
    SLPS [NTSC] = Japan?
    SLUS [NTSC] = United States/Canada

Even if the game save is from a different region then your game, it should still work. I posted on how to use downloaded game saves in this post.

EDIT: Found my original post here. If anyone has more information to add to these region codes, please do, and correct me if any of my information is incorrect...
