How do I turn on Prgressive Scan mode for DVD Movies??
How do I turn on Prgressive Scan mode for DVD Movies?? –
I just got a JVC HD 52" D-ILA Widescreen yesterday and got it all hooked up with component video cables and then I was trying to get it so that the DVD player (within the pstwo) would play DVD's in Progressive Scan. Well I start up a DVD and then go into the setup menu and it has Progressive Scan grayed out. I highlight it and try to change it to on but it will not allow me to. Also at the top item in this menu you can select letterbox or 4:3 and it won't allow me to change these either. How can I switch these settings??
Also I do have 16:9 selected in the main menu (when you turn the console on) and it is settup for component out.
I have a Matrix Infinity installed and everything has worked perfect except for this. Please help!!! Thanks!!!

Did you read the instructions inside the manual for the PStwo. I am pretty sure it tell you how to do it there.
I don't know how to get the PS2 to activate the progressive mode, but i do know that you will never get progressive out of the cables that come with the PS2. Even with s-video (what i run) you can only get 480i. Progressive is 480p and you have to use composite or rgb to make it work. I have been looking for the cable to do this but have not found one. I have a 103" widesceen theatre so it would make the picture very nice here also.
Just bought a set of componet cables for my ps2 yesterday.I have a 106 inch projection tv.I have only seen one company make componet cables, but they make the best cords,Monster. The cord was $50.
Have you flashed your infinity to 1.39 ? That's supposed to fix progressive scan
Just flashed after I read your post and that didn't seem to do anything. I still cannot switch progressive mode to on.
I asked sony and about this and here is their reply. Also I've not tried it yet so can not confirm.
Thank you for writing us.
To use the progressive scan feature of the PlayStation(R)2 computer
entertainment system when playing DVD movies, you must have a television that supports progressive scan video input (HDTV) and you must connect your console using the Component AV Cable (for PlayStation(R)2) (model number SCPH-10100), which is sold separately. Please note that the progressive scan feature for DVD movies is only available on the following PlayStation 2 console models: SCPH-50001, SCPH-50010,
SCPH-50001N, SCPH-50010N, SCPH-70011CB, and SCPH-70012CB.
If you set 'Progressive' to 'On' without the necessary equipment, picture
quality may be reduced, or the picture may not be displayed.
If your console is new (just out of the box,) you must do the following:
1. While a movie is playing (please note that you must wait until the actual
movie starts, and not the DVD menu), press the circle button once to stop the movie.
2. A few seconds after the movie stops, the DVD Player Settings Menu will
appear on the screen. Highlight the "Stop" icon on the menu (the square in the lower right hand corner), and press the "X" button to stop the "Resume Play" function.
3. Select the Setup icon. It is in the second row, underneath the number 7,
and it looks like a toolbox.
4. Using the right directional button, highlight the Screen Setup icon. It
looks like a television.
5. Using the down directional button, highlight "Progressive", press "X",
highlight "On", and press "X" again.
6. At the prompt screen that starts with, "A TV and cable supporting
progressive scan are necessary to use in progressive mode. Do you wish to set this option to "On"?", select "Yes".
7. The DVD movie should start.
*Please note that if your picture quality is reduced or no image is displayed
after you change this setting, your television may not have the necessary equipment to use the progressive scan feature. If you set this option to "On" for such a television, you can clear the setting by following these
1. Make sure you have a DVD movie disc in the console.
2. Press the "Reset" button on the front of the console. Then immediately
press and hold the "START" button of the DUALSHOCK(R)2 analog controller that is connected to controller port 1 until the DVD picture is displayed.
aren't you supposed to hold down triangle or something as you boot a movie to get progressive scan? or is that just for games that support progressive?
