I second this approach. It would even be worth the cost of buying a PS2 network adapter, if you have a lot of games, not to have to reburn them all. You could just zap them to an IDE HD, and game on. Even easier if you still have all of your ISO on your computer.
As a side note, be sure and keep your current collection of backups if you decide to go the ESR route, this way, if you ever decide later on to go the large HD route, you can rip those backups to a PS2 HD. You cannot easily do this with an ESR modified game disc. I can't remember whether ESR patcher can unpatch an ISO or not.
