How can I install an unofficial Linux on my ps2? I allready have a usb mouse/keyboard, netowrk adapter, and internal HDD. I would like to know how to install linux on my ps2. Is there away with out buying to offilial Linux kit? I have a modchip so I would beable to boot up any start up disc. Any and all help on this topic would greatly be appericated!

I'm very curious to this too, there is a virtual machine that is the problem to boot I heard.
However there is something called Black Rhino that might have some instructions.

Here you go. You still need the Sony Linux Run time disc which is illegal and cant be posted here. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the link messiahfan, I've been wondering if this was possible myself. Maybe I'll get another hard drive and try it out.

Everyone else is right. You'll need the RTE disc, either copied or legit. From there you can install the Sony Linux distro, or Blackrhino, or Gentoo. You don't need the kit, all you need is a broadband adapter and an HDD that works. People will try to tell you that you need the SoG cable for a monitor, but you don't. I'd recommend at least an S-Video cable. In order to get display out of it, you'll need to hold in a certain button combo as the RTE boots to force TV mode, but I forget what that is.

But the RTE disc can be run from HDLoader?

I've heard that it can be, yes. The main problem with running RTE from HDLoader is that HDLoader and the Linux kit itself argue sometimes, so getting them to coexist can be difficult. You can bet I'll be doing some serious research into that as soon as I aquire the RTE disc itself...please, if anyone knows where I can locate such a disc, do let me know...
