Ok, I buy a PS2 on saturday night to chip with a magic3.1 (im in canada and we dont have v8 ps2s yet) how can I tell what version it is, I had a v4 ps2 but its long gone now (broke, not from modding). Does the bottom of the box JUST show the serial number or does it show the SCPH-3xxxx also

I read in a tutorial by charlie_ps2 that if the serial number is PT5x that it is a v7 right?

if the serial # starts with 39001 it's a v7 according to charlie_ps2's PS2 Version Identification (US/C) at http://www.ps2newz.net/forums/showth...=&threadid=850

yeah but like on the ps2 when you buy it brand new in store, there is a hole in the bottom so they can scan the barcode in. I wanna make sure I am getting a v7 in store and not a v6 or just incase its v8, can you see the SCPH value on the ps2 when its in the box ? oh and my sigs wrong, i dont have a v7 ps2 yet

usually 39xxx is on a sticker on the ps2 top flap.they are v7 there are no more v6 that i've see in the stores
