Homebrew DVD | Modbo 4/Matrix Infinity 1.99
Homebrew DVD | Modbo 4/Matrix Infinity 1.99 –
01-10-2012,11:16 AM
On a whim I decided to buy a brand new SCPH-90002 9C (230 BIOS) PS2, pre chipped with a Modbo 4.
Since you can't boot directly from a USB device with v1.99 firmware, and I have no other method of putting data on a PS2 memory card, I decided to put together an ISO (using the CD burning guide at the FMBC site) and load up some homebrew that way.
No dice. It goes straight to the PS2 manager screen, showing a DVD video disc. Selecting this disc does nothing.
I have confirmed that the chip works insofar as it plays a backup disc, and I can get into the configuration window.
Unsure if it's my media at fault, I tried a DVD-R (same kind that worked with a game) and a +RW, all I had lying around, both burned at 4x. I'll go and get some more media tomorrow and do some more experimenting.
Any help would be much appreciated.

A DVD+RW probably won't work, it might even strain the laser to try. I've heard that DVD+R's work better on slim ps2's. If your ps2 will work with copied games but not your disk, there must be a problem with your method of making an ISO. Before FMCB I used to make CD's with several emus and other homebrew and a bunch of rom's for the emus. You could download the uLaunchELF ISO file, burn it to a disk and use it to browse to homebrew on your USB device. Not as neat as having it all on one disk but you'll be able to try out different homebrews to see what they're like. You could also use it to copy homebrew from a USB device to your memory card so you won't tie up your usb device all the time. If your dead set on creating your own ISO file look at a program called CD_DVD Gen.

I figured I was doing something wrong. Since bought some CDRs and some DVD-Rs, and a CDR with a uLE ISO worked fine.
I set up the latest uLE build as DEV1, and I have my homebrew on a flash drive. Easy.
As for CD/DVD Gen, the only links I can find are ancient (2004). Is this the correct program?

yes , but the way you are doing it is best...
once you have uLE running then you can start any program you like... OPL will let you play iso's from a share on your computer........lots of things can be done now.....
