Hey guys im having alot of problems latly. ive been trying to get my version 2 playstation 2 to read dvd-r games with my dms3 v2. and well i clean the laser and allthat and it was reading alot better but it would goto boot then goto teh dvd thing and say unable to read disk. but one day i was in the ps2 browser (with the memory cards and cds and such) and it says at the bottem Reading Disk... and im waiting for it to finish so i can select the disk so it will more than likly boot up in dvd mode and give me the disk read error but it just kept reading and then a message poped up in the browser saying disk read error and so then i just shut my tv off and went on my computer and did some other stuff and about 12 hours later i came back to my ps2 and it said Reading Disk at the bottem of the screen and i was like Uh oh thats nooo good.so then i shut my playstation 2 off and when i turned it on i heard the fan power up and then it was turning on like normal but then the laser goes ERRR and i get no visuals (i didnt try reading before the err either and didnt get any visuals at all) but the fan is still on and i dont know what the deal is. so last night i used my freinds version 3 playstation 2 that he wreaked but he didnt i guess. and i took the laser from his v3 ps2 and put it into my v2 ps2 but still nothing. ive checked the 125 and 250 volt fuses too, there fine. what is my problem? do i need a new system? sure hope not really wanted that radeon 9800xt that i have been saving up for a year now hah

Well, they do wear out. And a v3 laser won't be in much better consition thatn the v2. It's all very complicated. I suppose original games are OK.

When the laser begins to wear out, the lower reflectivity of DVD-R becomes a problem for the laser. Seeing as a new laser cotsts around half of a new PS2 ...

Did you try more than one controller when booting the DMS3 with your original problem. As a dodgy controller can really affect booting .

yeah there have been lot of problems with the v1-v4 lasers sony was using cheaper grade version laser and changed there lasers for the v5 and v7. i bought a used v4 laser too and after a week or two it does not play all my dvd games at first startup. and you hear that sound thats the laser trying to work you could tweak the laser or sale the ps2 you have and get a newer version. to tweak go to the faqs forum or someone on the board could tell you.
