Help with nas and ps2 slim
The NAS you have linked supports Samba (SMB) which is a requirement, but it looks like it's lacking in build quality. You may want to increase your budget or decide to buy a name brand even though it might not support all the features this one does. SMB is the only one that's of any importance here.

NAS usually works out more expensive than USB but it's an order of magnitude faster and is definitely the way to go if you can't or don't want to use an internal HDD.
As for the software, apart from what you've already mentioned, nothing else comes to mind. Just make sure you read threads in the appropriate boards here for instructions on how to prepare your games and you should be good to go.
