im TRYING to replace the laser.. but i keep getting mixed specs! at first i thought it was a ver5/6 30001R needing a KHS-400C according to this....

http://www.modchip.com/images/v5fpschacht.jpg (having that screw means you have a V5/V6 console.) ....i have that screw

But when i look at the laser... it looks exactly like a KHS-400B
    http://langleystudios.com/popup_image.php?pID=78

    and check this out!

The KHS-400B Playstation 2 Replacement Laser Lens is made for The Following PS2 Version 1 to Version 4 models:
    SCPH-10000
    SCPH-15000
    SCPH-18000
    SCPH-30000
    SCPH-30001
    SCPH-30001 R - For use ONLY with:
ALL consoles having serial numbers beginning with U0
and also works with SOME consoles having serial number beginning with U3

    MY SERIAL IS U0

AND HERES MORE!!! If there is an electrical hazard warning on the bottom of the case then it is a V4.
    http://www.modchip.com/images/ehazard_v4.jpg ...HAVE THAT!

soo seems like a 4 right?? well.. inside my white dial is not fully exposed... its partially covered.. meaning its a 5/6 i think!?

    any comments?

firsly electrical hazard imprints are present on v5's too. 30001R can be v4 v5 v6 if you have the screw then you are definitly a v5
that info you have on the ps2model says "working with ALL 1-4 models" but also it works with some v5 models depending on their serial.

it's hard to know which lazer is in a v5. the B lazer works in some v5s.. but some v5s come with the C lazer or the open faced lazer..

are you positive you have the older B lazer rather than the C lazer? the only difference is the black scrowding around the lazer is a bit taller...

if you are positive, then you can go ahead and safely purchase that lazer.
