Help me please :D
Hey guys..bear with me for a min.
I just bought a 4x DVD burner last week; along with a 50pack of DVD+R's. I also bought the "Magic Slide" bundle (slide card and boot discs) but unfortunatly some of my games wont work with the boot discs. Ive tried my orginal Soul Calibur II disc using the swap method and it does the same thing my backup does...so obviously this "method" wont work for every game.
My question is...Whats the best chip to get installed?
I have a version 1 (3000-1) PS2, one of the orginals and am seriously considering sending my PS2 to "Loy" along with a chip for modifacation. But what chip do I buy? Price isnt too big of a deal, but ease of use and functionality is. Ive checked numerous places but they are just trying to sell the chips, so they will say anything to get a sale.
Messiah, Majik V, Neo 2.2; yada yada yada. Each say they will work for my console but wich is the best?
Also I see loy does excellent work; everything looks pretty clean, so would ordering a "Clip" make the installation look better or is it just a waste of money for him? I cant mod my PS2 myself, I admit of all the things I can do badly...THAT is something I do horribly.
I thought about just emailing "Loy" with this question, but I figured Id just let him do what he does best...installation. That way he doesnt have to worry if the chip is garbage he was only responsible for installing it.
Thanx

uhhh, i dont recall magic v chips working in a v1 console. so thats a no right there. not to mention, isnt the neo 2.2 a swap chip? i'm hopped up on cold medication right now, but im pretty sure it is. so thats another no.
if price isnt an option, and you care more about the functionality, and you arent installing it yourself, just get a dms 3.

from what i HEAR most version 1's wil not read dvd+r very well..maybe you're getting lucky with some games but not others...v5-9 read dvd+R very well though...but that is what i hear, as i don't own any dvd+R so i cannot test myself.
magic V will not work with v1-4(1a/1b)...do a quick search and hear what people think are good..
i'd say v1 is a lil old, you may want to upgrade to a newer ps2, but if not
smartchip works on v1
dms3 works well on v1
messiah2 works well on v1, i don't know about their latest chips 1.31-1.33, they've had some problems..but again i HEAR these things, and haven't tested
magic3.1/apple pro/duo i believe all work with v1..........etc.

the dms is pretty good from what i hear, because of the upgradeable abilities it has. but from experience the messiah 2 pro is the best it never failed me yet i have two installed in my ps2"s my v1 & v7.

if as you say money is no problem then get a new station as suggested above - or a V7 if possible so you don't have to stuff with all the V9 crap going around at the momnet.
But if your V1 is working fine then Loy will love ya more if you get a DUO - much easier for him to install and very reliable.
Else and Apple Pro.
I would not waste the money on a more exy chip like the Messiah2 and the DMS on such an old station plus they would be harder for Loy to install.
but as he seems to charge a flat rate for all installs - go ahead and buy what ever you want - but the DUO would make his life easier.

Thanks for the replies; however Im still confused.
Like I said money inst too big of a problem; but Id rather not throw it away. My V1 PS2 works fine, whenever it acts up I just take it apart and clean the lens and check for any odd angles it might have picked up.
The problem I have with buying a new PS2 is the chance that I might end up getting one that is the wrong version (5000-1) and the fact I would be left with another PS2 on my hands. Ive checked online and to buy a PS2 "Pre-modded" is outragous; or I would have gone that route already.
Some of the games I have backed up are:
Nba Live 2004
Enter the Matrix
ATV offroad fury 2
SSX3
The only game I tried to back up that didnt work was "Soul Calibur 2" unfortunate as that game gets the most play time/abused. Im modding my PS2 so I dont have to replace games as often as I do. Ive gone through 4 games that I have had to replace because of friends who decide to play while intoxicated. The cost replacing those games merit a substantial amount to play backups; thats why Im pretty lienent on the cost. However like I said I dont want to throw money away; I dont know anyone who needs a PS2..esp my version.
I guess Ill check out the "Buy or Trade" board and see whats available at a decent cost.
Thanks for the replys

hey i'm part of the i like v0-v4 club i'll do those dvd pins just make sure your laser is in good condition

  :D not desperate for work are ya loy? ;)
Dregun - I suggest that you just talk to loy - if he is your choice of installer - he would have his preferences for a chip on that station - or at least a recommendation.
Most of the better chips will work on that station so just pick one and go for it.

no i just like those dvd pins

well IMO loy has the best install pic's. I guess other installers are envious of his work. So downunder I will send loy 2 ps2's to install. Dms3's not duo. Their are some opinions about chips with 17 wires affects on performance with coded data. So if this gentleman wants his ver. 1 modded loy is 1 of a minute installers who have the kahoonas to do such. Shows great confidence and charater and I like that.
