It does have a built in IR receiver for DVD movies, kinda pointless as you still need to buy the remote and the PS2 is a crappy DVD player anyway. It will also do progressive output and has a "better" laser that will read +/-RW discs.

Better laser ? Compared to what ? The same as it has been since V5... not a single important improvement in my opinion. Just a new motherboard to make chipping harder and the mystic bugs, that's why a thousand V9s (V10 ?) die... And the "silver" miracle, with nothing new...

    regards, Stephen

Agree V6-V7-V8 were the easiest to mod.

The LA/LB are the reason of the faster boot and disk recognisation. Laser has nothing to do with it. DVD+R and DVD+RW were played on V7 (phew even on V5) like a charm, so that's not a big news anyway. The infra *which is worth nothing without a remote*, the silent fan, progressive sacn and that's it. Sony has not upgraded the system that much, just made a "new" version in another color just to get some more money for it.

Remember the wishes about 129, 149 USD prices, all were an xmas dream, we all have realised by now. So that was the big Sony happening this year, here has been a "new" machine on the same old price but it's "better" so people will buy it (on the same old price). And so did people. Sony did a great marketing job.

i agree with uns97. Sony did hype up everyones idea of a better cheaper version of the ps2. Even i went out and bought me a new v10.

I wanted to try and chip it, but i ended up with a swap instead. I know i am a chicken...lol I figured that this would just have to suffice until someone comes up with better boot injection code for ps2 DVD games. Which i hope someone will do soon. if not i might have to start working on it myself.

I would much rather have a memory card do all the work than have to try and fry my new v10.. lol

oh yeah guys the SMD 3.0's work great in the new v 10, for those of you who do not want to get your soldering iron hot.. lol

he he well i know a few retailers getting bad v9s back and all have said the v10's are still out there without a problem.

im right up to press just hope the v10's dont start going down v5 was the best to mod by far in my opinion no close b and c near the iop.
