Heatsink grease? –
I was thinking about the heat related concerns that people have when putting an HD into their old PS2s and I notice that from the factory Sony doesn't put any heatsink grease on their Emotion Engine. Wouldn't it be wise to spread some Artic Silver on that thing?
Or am I misinformed about the source of the heat issues? Are we more concerned about the laser or some other component?
no i think that the heat is the hdd its self because it is not properly cooled
EDIT: its called thermal grease
Artic Silver would probably not work so well... I think that's meant for metal to chip contact. For the ps2 you have a heatpad.
Hmm .. I thought for sure that the metal heat sink went straight on the EE. Oh well, in any case if that's not the source of the overheating then any kind of "thermal grease" would be unnecessary.
u prolly need one of those usb fans or sommin
its most likely te hdd itself causes significant increase in heat
if you are worried about HD getting hot.
do a search: external+hard+drive. guy named game_master selling the stuff.
Yes I've seen the interesting external hard drive "attachment". I haven't noticed any heat issues ... I'm in Canada and it's freezing here all the time I was just taken aback as on all computer CPUs, thermal grease is a must-have.
Clearly this is not the case with the PS2.
