HDD installation question with slimline

I recently got a PS2 slimline and I'm not quite sure what version it is. The model number is 70004, I've checked online guides and they seem to list this model under v12 as well as v13, so which is it ?

Also, I want to install a HDD, so should I use the IDE cable to motherboard soldering technique or can I use a normal USB PC harddrive ?

I've quickly ran over both methods, I understand the soldering technique and might be able to do it properly. But I don't understand what is needed to get the USB drive working. Does it have the same compatability as a normal IDE harddrive with respect to games ?

in my opinion the best is to buy HDCombo. You can check their Website for further information. With HDCombo you can use HDLoader to play your games directly off your IDE HDD.

I doubt that is available in stores where I live. I'd also prefer to do it myself...mainly cause its cheaper :).

if you mean by doing it yourself not paying anything you can use an old 40 wire hd cable and solder it to the mobo using hd connect instructions

so USB Harddrives don't work ? I could easily obtain a USB hdd but I don't know if it'll work properly and with all the games or not.
