Have i borked my mates v9?
Have i borked my mates v9? –
Question for the wise
Was installing a duo2 into a mates pal v9 ps2. Everything went fine, was about to screw it together and realised i had forgotten to romeo it. I was in two minds as to if to do it, but in the end i re-opened box and performed the mod.
Since then it hasnt span a disc at all (worked fine b4 i modded it and after i put the duo2 in). I couldnt see any bridges on the LA pin or surrounding pins. Voltage was a nice and solid 5.1v. I reveresed the mod and had a stable 12v but still not spinning of the disc.
The box always booted, but just went to the normal screen. The tray still worked. I did a heap of searching and found some people who had issues with small bridges on the bios and the cd/dvd points. I rechecked all of these, still no good. I completely removed the duo2 which was installed and spent about an hour doing visual inspections (under my mag glass) to see if there were any bridges, couldnt see any. Did tests with the multimeter for bridges on surrounding pins of all the solder points and everything was good. Powered it back up again, still no disc spinning, and now the tray doesnt work.
I'm at a loss, what else is there to try, i dont have a replacement LA on hand as i'm unsure if that is dead, and for the work involved in replacing it i would like to know before hand.
Does anyone have any idea's.
I'm a little confuse with "Was installing a duo2 into a mates pal v9 ps2. Everything went fine, was about to screw it together and realised i had forgotten to romeo it."
Ok so you installed the chip, tested it, and everything works fine. Then once you're about to screw it all together again you realized you forgot the romeo mod? So you unscrewed then applied the romeo mod then it wouldn't work again?
The 5v point located behind the network adapter connector, is where it was connected.
Did you scratch the circle to reveal the shiny golden circle? I think you had a cold solder joint.
yep, did that.. I wasnt sure so i ran a wire off that point and checked the voltage, came out @ the 5.1v. I also tried the underside of this point incase i didnt scratch it enough
Just so you know i re did the romeo mod (just then) and pulled the top off the dvd drive again. The tray now goes in and out (which it didnt b4). But it wont spin a disc. I did how ever spin a disc (by hand), and then reset the console, and it started to spin its self. An allignment problem perhaps? Oh and i also rechecked all the ribbions to the dvd.
Okay one other thing i just noticed. When i manually spin the disc (just slowly) and reset the ps2. It will pick it up and spin it. BUT the laser head doesnt move towards the outer of the disc.
Also to add, this the drive works fine in my v10 console. Its got me stuffed, anyone got any ideas?
You didn't answer my question above.

Did you test the PS2 to see if it worked though.
