I'd highly recommend Shadow Hearts 1 & 2, two very, very good games. The Suikoden series is excellent, though this only applies to the first three as the 4th was dreadful. Overall though, I think pretty much all the major RPG's have been covered.
I daresay FFX is better than Toma is making it out to be, so its definitely worth checking out, though to be fair it is very formulaic and not a patch on the PSX FF's. In comparison to Suikoden 3 it stands up and both games are worth your time and both, I should add, are not without their flaws.
The only major RPG aside from Suikoden 4 which I was majorly disappointed in was Xenosaga Episode I, makes FFX look like a non-linear, radical masterpiece of the highest order. Killed my interest in the Xenosaga series and from what I hear Episode 2 isn't any better.
Yes, FFX really isn't that bad; I'd definitely play it over Suikoden IV, but not III.
As for the Xenosaga games; they're very much an acquired taste. Some people absolutely love the psychobabble and how they can continue to debate hidden concepts, but for most people it's like watching an anime (read: Evangelion, you can't help but notice the similarities) with a little bit of user interaction mixed in.
Episode 2's gameplay is improved but the story takes a fall instead and it's a bit shorter than your average RPG. I had a good time with it though. And I'm a big Xenoseries fan.
