OK, I am sick of being on here and being part of the scene, knowing a shitload about computers and the Playstation 2 itself, yet knowing nothing about soldering. I am going to sell my v7 soon for a new SCPH-50001 when it hits stores in the Midwest, and as soon as a DMS3 modchip supports them, I want to solder my own frickin modchip into my ps2. What do I things do you guys recommend for soldering supplies (wattage of the iron, type of solder, desoldering braid of any kind, multimeters, magnifying glasses, etc) and what things should I practice on before opening my ps2 and doing the damn thing myself? How did you guys get started? Thanks, I will be out of town starting Monday, but I will check any posts before then and be back around Friday also. Thanks!

I had almost no experience before successfully installing my first mod a couple of years ago. It was a magic 2. I practiced 5 min before though on a psx controller that was broke. Never even touched a soldering iron before that. Definately take your time. It requires lots of patience. Just go one point at a time checking each time to make sure you have just what you need. Then keep doing them. Very fun also, I think. For sure you want to double check everything before powering up after an install attempt. Now since doing that I have modded several other ps2's and xbox's. I do lots of led's mods and all that. I just really enjoy it all. I currently still install ps2 and xbox mods. Mostly ps2 though. Can't do much on the xbox since I am having probs w/ non working media. Definately give it a shot though if you have nothing to lose. Real fun and just feels good to know you can do this kind of stuff unlike millions of other people out there who have no clue how much work goes into what we are doing.

Any recommended supplies? Like if I were to go to Radio Shack and pick up the supplies, which iron, type of solder, desoldering braid or vacuum, and anything else should I get? Check out www.radioshack.com and see the supplies they have if anyone can recommend them.

Anybody? What type of solder from Radio Shack should I buy, and how thick should it be? Also, do you recommend the desoldering braid, the desoldering vaccum, or both? Any magnifying glasses recommend too? Thanks!
