Hello All. Well I guess Im going to try my first magic3 mod chip install on my buddies ps2. I have very good soldering abilities to do this. I have been reading till my eyes bleed. LOL Still just a little confused. Do I just go ahead and install this thing to the correct Version PS2? Is there anything I need to backup first? Or any precautions I sould take? Didnt see anything of this sort.
I am open to all suggestions on a good proper install. Any tips or good advise will be takin to heart!!! And greatly appreciated.
Thanks allot for any advise anyone can give.
Thanks for all the help!!! Have a great day.
You don't need to back anything up but do need to do a few things to prepare if you are a virgin installer.
You should read the FAQ's and Guides section of the forums and have a look at some of the installation guides before you try installing the chip to make sure you are confident in what you're doing.
Hey Sephiroth Thanks allot for the reply.. I have read almost all the guides and checked out allot of the installs. Looks pretty simple to install. I just wanted to make sure I didnt over look "anything" before I do get my feet wet. I am a virgin playing with the ps2 but have lots of soldering ability. Thanks again. Your responce is greatly appreciated.
Back with 1 question after another day of studying..
I have the magic3.1 chip with a V5 ps2. I see some pics say do not use pad Z and others just show it as it would get wired. Do I hook up to Z or Not. Im leaning on the Not side. But I hate to get this back together and you know......
Thanks again for any help that anyone can give.
the z point is for gameshark. if you're not gonna use gameshark then dont worry bout it.
Thats what I was thinking. So I went ahead with the install. It boots up fine and plays for 40 minutes or so and then kicks off and the reset light just keeps flashing. Any suggestion??? I will keep checking all my connection. They all look really good. I did have a little solder splash between the legs of the chip where point P, O, N, and M go. Thought I cleaned out good enought, but ya never know. Is there any other common problems that would make this happen??? Again I really appreciate everyones input on helping me get this thing going. Hopefully I can someday come back here and help other newbies along. Thanks Allot
check the mobo with an 8x magnifying glass
OK thanks for the advise. I went ahead and did so. I guess as I was putting it together G wire broke on me. So I fix that put it all back together again and the fan is now not working. I checked the wire to make sure I did pinch it and all is well but the fan will not come on. I searched and found a post that said fan power should be 5V Correct? With my meter set to DCV I cannot get any reading off the fan header. Must have blown a fuse or something. Still works fine. I see some have hooked fan to 3.5v Could someone tell what points are used to do this, or is there an alternet 5v place a can hook this back up.
Guess I should have never gotten into this LOL... Expecially with my bad luck. TIA
you shouldnt run the ps2 for too long without the fan running. it might overheat.
