    As I'm completely new to the PS2, and dont really know any of its better games, i was hoping for some suggestions off experienced PS2 Gamers. My favourite Genres are RPG (mainly Turn-based, but I do like some JRPG and diablo too, Baldurs Gate to Final Fantasy 7), Action-Adventure (I liked Zelda Games, Sphinx & Cursed Mummy, Alan Wake, Heavy rain, Farenheit), Adventure (If there are any point and click or even Myst style titles), Survival Horror (All Resident Evils 1-4 & the few inbetween, Cursed Mountain, the Grudge, Earlier Alone in the Dark, Darkfall), Any really atmospheric games that are story riven too. I dont like Sports games or Driving Games.

    Any responses are really appreciated.

    thanks

    :>

    Then you have chosen the right console, because just like PS1 was the main RPG console of the previous generation, so is PS2 the main RPG console of this one. There is no other console available with as many good RPGs as the PS2 (except maybe the PS1).

    Primary RPG recommendations would be:
    Final Fantasy X == FF10
    Final Fantasy X-2 == FF10-2
    Final Fantasy XII == FF12 (combat is no longer turn-based, but still smart in other ways)

    Then there are other RPG series such as:
    Wild Arms 3 through 5 + 'Alter Code F'
    Suikoden 3 through 5 + 'Tactics'
    Shadow Hearts 1 through 3
    Grandia 2 and 3 + "Xtreme"
    Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 + "Re: Chain of Memories" (non-turn-based)
    Star Ocean 'Till the End of Time" (non-turn-based)

    Then there are some great SRPGs from Nippon Ichi:
    La Pucelle Tactics
    Disgaea 1 and 2
    Makai Kingdom
    and a few others...

    The Nippon Ichi games all have rather simple graphics, and most storyline scenes are simply CG on top of a non-animated background. But the real entertainment value in these games lies in the grid-based combat (which is turn-based) as well as the very advanced levelling systems. Not only can you level up your many characters, but also all their equipment, and any other non-equippable items you find or buy or steal.

    And while the item levels usually stop at Lv100, character levels go up to Lv9999, which can take a lot of grinding, if you don't learn the shortcuts...

    Despite their simple graphics and rather childish stories, those Nippon Ichi games have given me many hundreds of hours of entertainment, which is why I recommend them for others too.

    I could go on listing RPGs and naming many times more than I've done above, but there are many game lists available elsewhere, and I don't really have the inspiration for making a larger listing here.

    Best regards: dlanor

    I like a similar style games. My favorite PS2 turn-based rpg style game is Front Mission 4 or Front Mission 5 (english translation here). Other survival horror games with good atmosphere are Fatal Frame 1-3 and Silent Hill 3-4. One of my favorite games for the PS2 is Blood Will Tell. It's more action/adventure, but it has great atmosphere and I think it is amazing.

    Also the Xenosaga series. RPGs and pseudo-sequels to Xenogears. I really enjoyed the first one once I got used to the battle system. Good story and memorable characters. I haven't played the second and third ones yet but I expect they will be more of the same. Very cgi heavy but if you don't mind that then you should like them.

    I'm also a big survival horror fan, and I recommend Rule of Rose, Clock Tower 3 and Haunting Ground. Also the games Obscure 1 + 2 look interesting but I haven't had time to play them yet. Some of these titles were slated critically, but you say you liked "The Grudge", so I'm sure you won't mind this Oh and like ps2dragon says Fatal Frame 1-3 FTW.

    I remember playing Shenmue on a friend's Dreamcast once, it was a very fun game.
    What's the closest PS2 analogue?

    While I appreciate the suggestion, you are aware that the two are completely different genres, right?

    Also, Not only is GOW2 (or even 1) not even available on the PS2, its an XBOX360 exclusive title isn't it (Except the PC version of the first one, of course) ..
