Hey guys when i play games with large areas (i.e GUN and NFS: Carbon) they have to either pause/freeze while it loads the next area. You can see it when approaching these areas as there are no models or textures just empty / see through. It seems like the ps2 isnt loading in game fast enough. Why is this? this happens on both orginal and backup copies. any ideas?

    cheers

Laser is most likely on its way out. Try cleaning it for a start, with a cotton bud & some rubbing alcohol.

Then the next step is to try adjusting either; the large white cog-wheel at the rear of the drive bay, or the very small screw to the left of the laser mounting. Or both.
Just be sure to mark where they started from, and, with regard to the tiny screw, only make small adjustments at a time.

If you do get the laser fixed successfully, bear in mind this is only a temporary fix, and the laser will need replaced at some point. Although, considering that a laser costs a minimum of 2/3's the price of a pre-owned, refurbished PS2, then you'd be better off buying a refurbished PS2.

emphasis on small increments. and dont forget to mark the original position other wise it might never work again. i wouldnt recommend adjusting the azimuth screw (next to the laser) - its need very fine adjustments.
