Hi, I was just wondering :

1.) Once you have the FMCB Exploit installed on your memory card can you simply put a backup into your PS2 Slim and it'll boot (for both PSX & PS2)?

2.) Do you need to ESR Patch every backup before burning it, for it to work in FMCB (Again, for both PSX & PS2)?

3.) Do you need to cover those sensors on the PS2 Slim, to use FMCB, or is that method only when using Swap Magic ?

    Thanks for all help given.

    :>

That reply needs one modification, for the case where the backup is an ESR-patched DVD-R backup of a PS2 game (or homebrew disc).

Such a backup disc can be booted just by placing it in the tray and power-on or reset the PS2 with an FMCB MC inserted, with ESR included as usual and with proper FMCB configuration.

Also, be aware that ERS is not compatible with PS1 backups. It has been documented many times that ESR is PS2 only.

Like djflexmaster79 implied, most of us hope that the PS2PSXe emulator for PS1 games will soon reach a state suitable for its first full release.

What is available now is just a preview version without any sound. The current version ffgriever is working on is presumably much better in all other ways too.

Once we do get that emulator in a full version, we will be able to use it for playing PS1 games from any available PS2 media, including internal HDD (for those that have it), USB drives, and storage on a networked PC. All of those methods already work for the preview version of PS2PSXe.

And while waiting for that emulator release the situation remains much as it always was.

The only ways of running PS1 game backup discs are to either use a modchip or to use so-called disc-swapping methods with blocked disc sensors (or flip-top lid or forced tray ejection on the old fat consoles). This relies on first having the console identify that the disc in tray is a valid PS1 original disc, which you then replace with a burned backup without having the console notice the change, thus allowing you to play the game on that backup disc.

Such disc swapping can for PS1 games on most console models be done using uLE to first identify and stop the original disc after which you block the sensor (or force eject), swap the disc for a PS1 backup and then give the "MISC/PS2Disc" command of uLE to boot that backup, but it does not work for the models older than V9 SCPH-500xx (I think).

For the older models I believe you need some special swapping-specific tools.

    Very true.
For those older models, you need a PS1-swap-disc like BreakerPRO, to swap the discs 'out of PS1-Mode'.

I still think, the PS1-Logo-Check can be removed by software.

I think my console is v12 (70003). I have watched a youtube vid how to block the sensors and found it quite easy to do. After a quick test, using a backup of Ape Escape, it worked flawlessly. :>

    Thanks Guys !!
