File editing –

Ok, so i'll admit, im sort of new to this PS2 dev scene. Ive been -trying- to do some research on editting files on the PS2. Removing certain files to be specific. Dont know my exact model of PS2 i have, but the HDD i have was the standard HDD kit that Sony released with the FFXI start pack thingy. While browsing a while back, i thought i remembered seeing a hexeditor to view files installed and edit/delete/back files for it. It would probably be easier to explain what im trying to do. I have FFXI installed on the HDD obviously. I know that the PC version of FFXi has ".dat" files that store certain models inside the game. Deleting these files will remove prevent you from seeing them in-game. I was wanting to try and do the same with the PS2. I would pretty much assume that the files will not be the same extension, nor the same directory. Im really not looking for anyone to hold my hand through this, but is there anyway i can get into the FFXI files, and view and edit them. Any constructive help would be much appreciated.
