    i have a v14 ps2 with crystal 1.1 chip. i just got my ps2 a few weeks ago.

i burned ffx to a verbatim dvd-r with AZO (2nd only to taiyo yudens apparently). i'm 30 hrs in ffx, and just the last day or 2, when i switch characters in battle or summon aeons, there's a slight half a second of lag. i never had this before. this only happens in battles. everything else works fine. movies play normal speed, no lag anywhere else. there's no scratches or damages to the disk.

    what's going on?

what u mean by check my laser?

all my other games work fine

i burned it like i burn all my games:
    DVD Decryptor Write @ 4X
on Verbatim 16X DVD-R with AZO
DVD Decryptor says this for my DVD-R's:
    DVDRW DRW-3S163 BSG5 (ATA)
    Current Profile: DVD-R

    Disc Information:
    Status: Empty
    Erasable: No
    Free Sectors: 2,298,496
    Free Space: 4,707,319,808 bytes
    Free Time: 510:48:46 (MM:SS:FF)

    Pre-recorded Information:
    Manufacturer ID: MCC 03RG20

    Physical Format Information (Last Recorded):
    Disc ID: 0@P-!-00
    Book Type: DVD-R
    Part Version: 5
    Disc Size: 120mm
    Maximum Read Rate: Not Specified
    Number of Layers: 1
Track Path: Parallel Track Path (PTP)
    Linear Density: 0.267 um/bit
    Track Density: 0.74 um/track
First Physical Sector of Data Area: 196,608
Last Physical Sector of Data Area: 0
Last Physical Sector in Layer 0: 0
MCC (mitsubishi) is supposed to be pretty good. my next batch will be Taiyo Yudens, after i get through my 50 stack of verbatims.

i'm not sure if this is really that serious. it only lags that half second the 1st time i summon something or the 1st time i switch to a character (it lags for each 1st switch). what i'm worried bout is that this never happened before.

Hey ihaveabu, no need to try Taiyos, those Verbatim MCCs of yours are absolutely the best money can get nowadays.
This is most likely a laser issue, maybe it's getting old.
You can try to put the PS2 in diagnosis mode, it will probably help.
    To do so, check this:
    1) You must be in the "main menu" screen of the PS2 console, the first screen that comes up when you start with no disc in.
    2) press the "triangle button"
    3) Select "Console" from the top using the up directional buttons and press
    the "Triangle" button
    4) Select "On" using the up and down directional buttons and press the "X"
    button
    5) Insert a disc. The console automatically starts the diagnosis.
If that doesn't help, Stand the PS2 on its side vertically.
    Later,

    TSR

i found out y it's laggy. i've been loading from my 16mb Maxx card, and for some reason, saving/replacing on that card is extremely slow compared to my sony card. i loaded a game from the sony card, and no lag at all!! wow

    are maxx cards that bad?
