Extention lifetime of SPU lasers - feedback from other modchip installers needed

We all know that SPU lifetime reduces a lot, when the pstwo has been modded.
When you install a modchip in the pstwo with a SPU lens, and you keep the SPU lens in the pstwo, what do you do with the SPU lens ?
Me personally increase the resistence on the DVD potmeter, with 10%. When then it is still under 1200 Ohm I increase it above 1200 Ohm.
When I left it unchanged, I got back most of the pstwo's with SPU lens after 1-2 months. I install a Matrix Infinity.
What do you do ? And what are your experiences with your solution on the longer term ?

When I changed the potmeter of SPU lenses above 1200 Ohm, I have not seen anyone back. The first one I changed above 1200 Ohm, was 3 months back.

I measured the current of some new and almost dead lasers and the potmeter setting did not change the current with a new laser.
The current measured with a new laser was 55-60 ma (DVD).
The old laser measured 130 mA and was set from 120 to max 163 ma (bad DVD) with the potmeter.
The photodiode in the laser pickup measures the intensity of the direct emitted light or maybe the intensity of the reflected light and that controls the current and thus the lifetime of the laser when it goes up.
After modding is the use of cheap DVD-R media the cause of laser failure.
