DUO Installation Crazyness

Great forum. I recieved my DUO from the excellent foundmy.com the other day. The installation went really smooth on a V4-GAP, for the most part. Only the first time I booted up the PS2 I got no audio or video, and the CD/DVD tray would eject constantly after hitting eject. Oops. I resoldered some points on the bois legs and also points A-B-I specifically. I must of had an unseen bridge on one of them.

Got it to boot up the second time and loaded up some original and backup CDs just fine. Then I tried some original DVDs with no luck- it just kept kicking me back to the browser screen. Remembering the old PS1 days I put the PS2 vertically and it started booting DVDs and CDs 100%.

I'm really happy with the chip, just confused on why it would behave like that. Anyone care to explain?

Thanks for the reply. That does make sence, only I never had problems with it reading any discs either vertically or horizontally before the mod. Is it possible that a slight bridge or wandering piece of solder could compound the weakened laser and make it less effective? I'm still fairly new to PS2 modding, and the DUO chip is so new there's not a ton of info out on it yet

Well, first off points A, B and I are DVD controller points and bridging them will give the exact symptoms you describe. If the little legs on the DVD controller are giving you grief, go to the vias, the little copper pads that you can find on most points by following the trace.

Also you need to remember that a laser needs to work harder to read CD-R and DVD-R discs than it had to with originals. Thus a weak/worn laser may not become obvious until after you install a chip.

Does it need to be stood vertically even with originals or only with your copies?

If it now does it with all it is possibly due to your install error stressing the chips involved and reducing their effectiveness.

Duo is new but effective so I doubt it would be resulting from the chip. more so the age of the laser and the install gone wrong.
