    Hi

I modified my v4 ps2 with messiah. Everything worked fine. Then my dear father dropped it on the floor. At first sight the dvdrom was broken, when pushing the eject button the dvdrom didn't come out. istead it made noises. so I opened it up. Fixed it and the dvdrom started to eject normally. Then a new problem rised; the ps2 didnt read backup dvds while it read orginal dvds and movies. It also read cdr-backups of ps2 games, and orginal and backups of ps1 games. So the only thing that didnt work was dvdbackups.

Also before the accident, the ps2 used to have problems booting cdr-backups, it often took time to boot them, but i never had problem with dvdbackups.

I can't understand why this happens hope u guys can give me a clue. What is wrong and how can i fix it.

    Thanks alot for reading.

Lol, I will tell you why this happen, you dropped the PS2 on the floor But seriously, you are pretty darn lucky if the PS2 still read original and CD-R. If I were you, I would open the PS2 and recheck all the connection. A wire must be loose because of the impact.

so it is still hope? Is it certain that the wires are the cause and not the laser? Because i hate to open that box. And the problem about not reading cd-r discs properly, (which occured before the incident), does it have something to do with the laser and can it be fixed by using the any of the tutorials mentioned in this forum?

Hmmm... I bet that if you try to play around with the drive's White Cog you will find a setting that will fix your new dvd backup problem. As for CD-R, which media do you use? Maybe if you try a better CD-r you won't have as much trouble.

    white cog??

I use verbatims. The thing is i didnt have that problem before when it was newly chipped. BTW the chip is soldered with IDE cable wires... does that have anything to do with the booting problem of cd-r's?

You remove the top of the drive and remove the plate that hold the CD. You will see there is a big round white thing. This is it. It is used to set the distance between the lense and the game CD. Mark the current position and then you can play with it. It's pretty safe too.

    Check your laser.

I have seen dropped PS2s where the gold flex PCB on the laser actually tore.
The Yellow PS2 auto-boots all. PS2, PS1 stealth and DVD movies.
