Does a fliptop destroy your laser?

I'm starting to get DREs, and I never used to.

Does Sony still replace them for free if I take the fliptop off, or not? Did I break any tapes/seals installing my fliptop/taking it apart, I can't remember?

unles u rememba using a stanly knife and a hairdryer while takin ya ps2 apart you did brake your warenty sticker
