i was thinking of maybe cutting the ps2 case a couple of places, and putting LED lights (i think thats the name) in it like a computer case....if so how could they be connected to the power supply?

I've seen Ps2 Case mods with LED's in them, so yes it possable.. you just have to find a power point with the appropreate voltage, that shuts off when the system goes into standby..
Tho if you have never modded a PS2 and haven done much fine soldering I wouldnt recommend it.. as you might accadetly destroy your PS2

If you choose to use leds...

Imagine the D is the LED around the base is a ridge - one side of the ridge is flat - this is negative or ground (kathode from memory - which would make the anode positive - but not 100% sure) - connect this to ground on you PCB - either MB, Shielding or powersupply ground will do.
Equations for working out limiting resistor based on current draw of 20mA
On a 3.3Volt rail:
R = (3.3 - 0.7) / (0.020) = 130 Ohms required nearest preferred value - 120 ohms
On a 5Volt rail:
R = (5 - 0.7) / (0.020) = 215 Ohms required nearest preferred value - 220 ohms
On a 12Volt rail:
R = (12 - 0.7) / (0.020) = 565 Ohms required nearest preferred value - 560 ohms
Connect the calculated resistor value to the chosen supply rail and then the other end to the positive side of the diode. you may install a switch in between if desired.
