I have a version 4 ps2 that I have tried everything to get it to read cd-rs. I've read ever tutorial that I could get my hands on to calibrate, clean, adjust and tilt the laser into submission to no avale. It read a cd-r 1 time and 1 time only that I burned to read the disk ids for ps1 games. Since then, all I have recieved from my non solder mod and swap magic 3.x disk id the red screen of death. Am I burning the disks incorrectly? I'm using cdgen for the iso and roxio to burn them. Any help would be appreciated.

I just got finished replacing the laser in my V4 today. It makes a HUGE difference. All my DVD games and burned CD's now load very quickly. I would say if you are having problems this is the best and cheapest way to go. I picked my laser up on ebay for about $30 including shipping and only took me about 30 minutes to install.
