What would cause the disc tray to automatically close after two-three seconds after hitting the eject button? The tray opens up and then will close two second's later.

It's my parents' PS2, and they just wanted it down locally, so I knew of a guy who could do it. Everything else work's fine, except for the premature timing of the disc tray.

I'll just take it back, I'm sure he can handle it. I'm just curious what could be some of the likely problems and fixes.

    Thanks

    It is dirty !!!!!!
You should reassemble CD- ROM and wash then dry and assemble
when you hit close blue light blink and when it closed it stop to blink. If dirty CD rom then light blink when you hit eject and don't stop becouse can't reach to end point (becouse of dust).
If you don't go to specialist.
    Regards MPSX
